LEXINGTON, Mass. – The Rivier baseball team defeated Lesley, 5-3, in non-conference on Wednesday evening at Minuteman Highschool.
With the result, the Raiders improved to 5-8, while the Lynx dropped to 6-5.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Raiders struck early, scoring twice in the first inning. With two outs, junior Sebastien Reis worked a walk, and senior Dylan Aliberti followed with a triple to drive him in. Junior Liam Stott then singled down the right-field line, bringing home Aliberti and giving the Raiders a 2–0 lead.
- In the bottom half, sophomore John Horgan recorded a strikeout before the defense turned a double play to keep the Lynx off the board.
- In the top of the fifth, Rivier doubled its lead. Junior Nathan Innerfield drew a leadoff walk and advanced on a wild pitch, followed by another walk from Reis. Aliberti laid down a bunt to move the runners and load the bases. Sophomore Jayce Martinez then singled to left, driving in Innerfield and Reis.
- In the top of the seventh, Stott opened the inning with a double to left-center. Martinez's sacrifice bunt moved him to third, and sophomore Alex Gallicano followed with an RBI single to extend the lead to 5–0.
- In the bottom half, the Lynx finally broke through, scoring once, and later added two more in the ninth in a late push. It wasn't enough, as the Raiders closed out a 5–3 victory.
BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN
- Stott went 3-for-4, scoring a run, driving in another, drawing a walk, and stealing two bases.
- Martinez led the offense with two RBI.
- Reis scored twice and drew two walks.
- Horgan earned the win, combining four strikeouts alongside senior Nate Bonacorsi and junior Jake O'Connor
- Senior Ty Baker closed out the game on the mound, securing the save.
