NASHUA, N.H. – The Rivier baseball team downed Wentworth in non-conference action, 5-4, on Wednesday Afternoon at Harvey Woods.
With the result, the Raiders improved to 12-19, while the Leopards dropped to 18-14.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After two scoreless innings, the Raiders exploded for four runs in the third to take control. It started with sophomore Brady Balint ripping an RBI single to right field to score senior Owen Medlock. Senior Nathan Innerfield followed with a two-run double, bringing in Balint and first-year Kian Littlefield, and junior Sebastien Reis capped the surge with an RBI single to plate Innerfield and complete the big inning.
- Wentworth answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning, cutting the lead to 4-1.
- In the fifth, senior Dylan Aliberti put pressure on the defense and reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Balint to cross the plate and extend the lead.
- The Leopards made things interesting with a three-run push in the eighth, but first-year EJ Baker shut the door, scaping the jam and then slamming it closed in the ninth with back-to-back strikeouts to lock in the 5-4 victory.
