STANDISH, Me. – The Rivier men's soccer team traveled to the SJC Athletic Complex on Saturday afternoon for its first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup of the 2026 season against St. Joseph's College of Maine (SJC). The Monks maintained the lead for much of the contest, but the Raiders mounted a late surge in the closing minutes to earn a hard-fought 2-2 draw. 

With the result, both squads move to a record of 1-2-2 (0-1-1 GNAC). 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

• Rivier controlled much of the action from the opening whistle, outshooting Saint Joseph's 9-4 in the first half. 

• The Monks were the first to break through after Damir Brkic converted a penalty kick in the 34th minute to give Saint Joseph's a 1-0 advantage. 

• Despite generating several quality chances, the Raiders entered the break trailing by one. 

• Rivier continued to apply pressure entering the second half, but the Monks struck again in the 81st minute doubling their lead. 

• Just minutes later, junior Alejandro Quezada cut the deficit in half with an unassisted goal. 

• Refusing to back down, junior Luiggi Ferreira found the back of the net with only four seconds left on the clock to end the game with a 2-2 draw. 

BOXSCORE BREAKDOWN 

• The Raiders carried the offensive edge throughout the contest, holding a 21-11 advantage in shots (11-7 SOG). 

• Rivier earned seven corner kicks while the Monks earned five.  

• Graduate student AJ Deyarmin tallied five total saves between the pipes for the Raiders.

The Rivier men's soccer team is back on the road on Wednesday, Sept. 16 as they take on the Bison of Nichols College for a non-conference match up. Kickoff is set for 4:00 P.M. in Dudley, Mass.
