NASHUA, N.H. – The Rivier women's soccer team protected home turf Saturday afternoon, defeating Albertus Magnus 4-1 in both teams' Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) openers.
With the win, the Raiders improved to 2-1-1 (1-0-0 GNAC), while the Falcons fell to 3-1-1 (0-1-0 GNAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Rivier got on the board early and often, netting two goals in the first 24 minutes of play. Sophomore Hayleigh Young made a sliding pass from midfield to the foot of classmate Bailey Gatchell who buried the shot in the fifth minute. Juniors Nadia Laxa and Leah Morrier connected to give the Raiders a 2-0 in the 24th minute. Both teams traded chances in the final 20 minutes of the opening frame, but the score remained 2-0 heading into halftime.
- 11 minutes into the second half, Young logged her second assist of the afternoon, finding Ciarra Terry to increase the advantage to three goals. Morrier found twine for the second time in the contest off a pass from sophomore Bianca Casna in the 59th minute to take a 4-0 lead. The Falcons rounded out the scoring, ending the shutout bid in the 68th minute.

- Morrier paced the offense with four points and five total shots.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Olivia Rosario made four saves in between the posts.
- As a team, Rivier outshot Albertus Magnus 12-10 (9-5 SOG).
