NASHUA, N.H. – The Rivier field hockey team fell to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponent Lasell, 2-1, Saturday morning at Joanne Merrill Field.
With the result, the Raiders fell to 3-6 (0-3 GNAC), while the Lasers improved to 4-3 (3-0 GNAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lasell maintained control through the 5:44 of the first quarter, recording the first two shots of the contest. Rivier answered with the loan goal of the first half from senior Brianna Spinelli 6:49 into the frame. The Lasers had a chance late but were turned away by first-year goalkeeper Tatum Flanagan.
- The Raiders continued to control the pace of play in the second quarter. Rivier began the frame with three penalty corners and a shot from Spinelli that was saved. Sophomore Lexi Davies gave the Raiders another chance with just under five minutes remaining in the half before Lasell logged their only shot of the second quarter.
- Neither side was able to convert in the third quarter. Rivier held a 2-1 shot edge once again, as well as earned two penalty corner opportunities.
- The Lasers found their stride in the fourth quarter, scoring twice in a 4:02 span. Lasell evened the score at 1-1 with just under nine minutes remaining before taking its first lead of the morning just over four minutes later. The Raiders continued to battle, earning three penalty corners and a shot in the final minute, but Lasell's defense held firm to preserve the 2-1 victory.

The Raiders return to action Tuesday, Sept. 29 with a non-conference road match against Clark. The game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the Granger Athletic Complex.
