NASHUA, N.H. – After taking care of business in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Quarterfinals, the Rivier men's lacrosse team will host Saint Joseph (Conn.) in the GNAC Semifinals on Tuesday, April 29 at 7:00 p.m. at Joanne Merrill Field.
The top-seeded Raiders punched their ticket to the semifinals by downing No. 4S JWU (Providence), 15-4, behind a dominant nine-point showing from graduate student Michael Ference, who tallied five goals and four assists. Fellow graduate student Connor Eck added five goals of his own, while graduate student goalkeeper Sawyer Gagnon made eight saves between the pipes.
Rivier heads into Tuesday's matchup riding a 12-game win streak and holding a 14-1 overall record. The Raiders continue to boast one of the nation's top defenses, ranking second in NCAA Division III in goals allowed per game at 6.20 and leading the GNAC with a +117 scoring margin.
The defending GNAC champions, No. 2S Saint Joseph (Conn.), advanced to the semifinals after a hard-fought 11-7 victory over No. 3 Saint Joseph's (Me.) on home turf. Graduate student Evan Baden led the charge with a hat trick and an assist, while graduate goalkeeper Trey McCann recorded 11 saves.
The Raiders and Blue Jays met earlier this season, with Rivier claiming a 10-7 road win in West Hartford. Overall, Rivier holds a 4-1 record against the Blue Jays, with the lone loss coming in the 2023 quarterfinal round. Rivier will look to avoid history repeating itself as they seek their first GNAC Championship appearance in program history.
The winner of Tuesday's contest will advance to the GNAC title game on Saturday, May 3, and will play the winner of No. 1S Lasell and No. 2N Emmanuel (Mass.)
