NASHUA, N.H. – The Rivier men's lacrosse team is headed to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Semifinals for the third straight season after a dominant 15-4 victory over No. 8 Regis (Mass.) this past Saturday at Joanne Merrill Field.
The Raiders will host No. 5 Norwich on Wednesday, April 29, at 7:30 p.m. on Joanne Merrill Field for a semifinal clash.
Sophomore Mason Schultz and first-year Conor Walsh powered the offense, combining for 13 points. Schultz finished with six goals and one assist, while Walsh added five goals and one assist. Senior Owen McDuffie won six of 11 faceoffs, and first-year Luke Armano led the team with five ground balls and four caused turnovers.
Norwich advanced after a decisive 19-5 upset over No. 4 Emmanuel. In the regular-season meeting between the Raiders and Cadets, Rivier earned a tight 11-10 overtime victory, with Walsh sealing the win just 47 seconds into the extra period.
Key Cadets to watch include Jake Marcotte (37-26-63) and Drew Fleury (40-19-59), who led Norwich in scoring during the regular season. Faceoff specialist Ryan Magararu went 150-298 with 71 ground balls, while goalkeeper Mason Dils posted a .532 save percentage and a 10.85 goals-against average. Helping lead the charge for the Cadets to finish 8-7 overall and 6-4 in GNAC action earning the No.5 seed.
The winner of Wednesday's semifinal will advance to the GNAC Championship to face either No. 6 Saint Joseph's (Maine) or No. 2 Saint Joseph (Conn.), who play at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday.
