Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Downs Colby-Sawyer, 2-1, for Third Straight GNAC Win

NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Rivier men's soccer team traveled to Kelsey Soccer Field on Tuesday afternoon for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup against Colby-Sawyer College. After a close first half, the Raiders came out strong in the second and held on to head home with their third conference victory in a row.

With the result, Rivier improved to a record of 6-6-2 (4-3-1 GNAC), while Colby-Sawyer fell to 4-8-2 (2-5-1 GNAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Chargers struck first in the 21st minute to take a 1-0 lead over the Raiders.

  • Rivier bounced back just 10 minutes later after earning a penalty kick. Junior Luiggi Ferreira stepped up and buried the attempt low past the goalkeeper to even the score at 1-1.

  • The match remained tightly contested throughout the first half, with both teams recording four shots on goal as the tie held into halftime.

  • Coming back from the break, the Raiders seized the lead in the opening five minutes of the second half when first-year Dino Hurtic beat a defender and found the back of the net to make it 2-1.

  • Colby-Sawyer nearly equalized in the 78th minute on a free kick, but graduate student goalkeeper AJ Deyarmin came up with a crucial save to preserve the Raiders' advantage.

  • Rivier controlled much of the second half attack, outshooting the Chargers 11-6 and creating several dangerous opportunities.

  • Despite being unable to add an insurance goal, the Raiders held on for a hard-fought 2-1 victory.

BOXSCORE BREAKDOWN

  • Rivier held a 17-13 advantage in shots and an 11-6 edge in shots on goal.

  • The Raiders also controlled the corner kick battle, earning eight corners compared to just three for the Chargers.

  • Deyarmin made five saves for Rivier and finished with a .833 save percentage.

  • Hurtic paced the Raiders offensively with five shots, including two on target.
